REIKI
The Japanese word Reiki can be translated as ‘universal life energy’. Reiki was rediscovered as a practical, hands-on healing art in Japan by Mikao Usui around the 1900s. Reiki treats the whole person and supports relaxation, self-healing, detoxification and balance on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. Because Reiki is the universal life energy, it does not only treat your symptoms, but heals the root cause of the imbalance. Reiki is practical, hands on and powerful.
During a Reiki treatment you only take off your shoes to be more comfortable, and with your permission my hands will lightly touch certain parts of the body: head, chest, torso and back. The average length of a session is 75 minutes. Package deals for 4 treatments or a combination of services are available.
REIKI CLASSES
Reiki I Class
The first level Reiki training is offered in four three-hour sessions. During these sessions, the students receive four initiations to enliven their energy centers and align them to the inner source of healing. Students will learn self-treatment, as well as how to treat others. All students who complete the class will receive a Reiki first degree certificate. The cost of the class is $150.
Reiki II Class
The second-level Reiki training is offered in two three-hour sessions. Second-degree students are able to experience a deeper self-healing and learn to send Reiki from a distance. To take a Reiki II class, students need to have first-degree Reiki training from a Master in the Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage, practice regular self-treatment and have some experience treating others. If you would like more details about taking a Reiki II class, please contact me by emailing or using the contact form. The cost of the class is $500.
MY REIKI STORY
I first heard about Reiki in 2003, while I was working in Berlin. At that time, I was looking into holistic ways of healing for a family-member who dealt with chronic health issues. Someone said: ‘I’m organizing a Reiki class for a Reiki master, why don’t you join?’ Never having heard about Reiki before, I didn’t join the class. I read about it online and thought it was a cult.
A year later, having moved to the Netherlands, I found myself back in Berlin for work. The same person said: ‘What a coincidence, I am organizing a Reiki class this weekend, with the same Reiki Master.’ This time I decided to join, still I did not know much about Reiki, and had never received a treatment, but I was curious and more open to experiencing it.
Since the first class, Reiki has supported me in a gentle way to reconnect with my being, peeling off layer by layer, gradually letting go of everything that is not essential. With Reiki, I became more open to myself, to the people around me and aware of my choices and circumstances. This ongoing and deepening experience inspires me every day again. What once started as ‘homework’, with the advice of practicing daily, became my anchor in life.
Years later, while working in South Africa, I started giving Reiki treatments to people outside the realm of family and friends. Knowing that there would come an end to my stay in the country, I wished I could initiate them and teach them how to practice self-treatment. This inspired me to become a Reiki Master.
I was initiated as a Master in 2021.
